Following the underground success of debut single Your Space or Mine and now an exclusive live appearance at the BBC Electric Proms, shiny electro pop duo, 2 Hot 2 Sweat, are back with a disco-tastic assault on disappointing relationships – Half-Assed Rom-Com.
The duo, who were recently asked to play an invite-only event in tribute to John Peel as part of 2008’s BBC Electric Proms, create upbeat electro pop songs which are at once angry and charming, and always dance-inducing.
Tongue in cheek dance anthem Half-Assed Rom Com was born out of frustration after 2 Hot 2 Sweat spent an evening watching tawdry Ashton Kutcher comedy Just Married. The track is an ode to fleeting and often ultimately regrettable romances. It’s their favourite song to do the Robot to.
B-Side Office Drone is a twisted electro journey through a typical day at the office.
The single is released on 7” vinyl, CD and as a download in November through NR ONE Records, home of punky girlband faves Violet Violet, up and coming indie-rockers The Brownies and ‘Road to V’ winners Rosalita.
Introducing 2 Hot 2 Sweat
2 Hot 2 Sweat fell to earth in April 2007, when Matt Leuw and Mia Lane put their ludicrous musical notions into practice and unleashed the results on an unsuspecting public. A Day-Glo Mork and Mindy for the post-myspace generation, they soon found allies in Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, John Peel inspired internet music station Dandelion Radio and Peel’s music fanatic sons – Tom and William Ravenscroft.
Soon they were playing a string of live shows including support slots with The Duke Spirit, So So Modern, Pony Up!, Golden Silvers and Bearsuit, and recording an exclusive session for Dandelion Radio in October 2007. The internet radio station spearheaded the Sweat revolution, naming 2 Hot 2 Sweat Best New Band of 2007 in their end of year poll.
Debut single Your Space or Mine, was released in March 2008 through NR ONE Records. The limited edition record attracted many plaudits, becoming Norman Records’ Single of the Week and featuring on a free covermount CD with Artrocker magazine.
Leuw and Lane bring a barrage of clashing musical influences to the table, mixing Matt’s obsession with the noisy, adrenaline-fuelled guitars of My Bloody Valentine and squelching synths of LCD Soundsystem with Mia’s love of the cooing indie of St Etienne and Ladytron’s dark electro dance.
Their songs come from real people and real situations, often inspired by the benefit of hindsight - the ‘I really wish I’d said that…’ moments, set to a 4 to the floor disco beat.
‘Absolutely brilliant’ Huw Stephens, Radio 1
‘Those bemoaning the absence of Tigerforce, LeTigre or inaccessibility of Deathset, look no further than the punk-pop tunes landing as abrasive as Yeah Yeah Yeahs but danceable as CSS…’ Artrocker Magazine
‘Rapid, bustling, completely infectious indie electropop excellence…and they’re just as lovely live.’ William Ravenscroft, Unpredictable Porridge
‘Boy girl two-piece twin set electro acoustic disco twee dirty bitchslap mash-up pretty little synthy melodic pounding off key off colour pop music…Yes please!’ The Fly
