About Index7

I started Index7 out of frustration more than anything. I’ve always collected 7” singles but was getting very irritated at the lack of information available to people like me who wanted to buy them. I spoke to a lot of record companies and retailers and received very positive feedback about starting a dedicated 7” single resource . This encouragement led to the birth of this site.

The 7” single has undergone a huge revival in recent years and this resurgence of interest, in what was once thought to be a dying format, now sees it account for up to 15% of physical single sales. Many record companies also value the promotional power of the 7” single highly with more and more frontline physical releases coming out on this very collectable and chart-eligible format.

As most 7” singles tend to be limited editions (to enhance their collectability) and often sell out on pre-orders alone it can be extremely difficult to find out information on new releases. I’m hoping that Index7 will offer a definitive news and information resource for the 7” single format and will provide a valuable, free platform for record labels to promote their new 7” single releases.

I also believe strongly in supporting the last 50 or so independent record shops left in the UK and Index7 will provide links and information about independent record shops where 7” singles can be purchased wherever possible.
